Waldens Estate Fishery

The lake is very intimate and contains some lovely scaly carp

Waldens Estate Fishery Lake 1

Lake number one was the first project of the fishery and was formerly two small ponds. It was created by removing a barrage that separated the old ponds, a couple of islands were also removed.

The pretty lake is around 3 acres in size and boats a wonderful stock of English bred carp – 80 in total. Each fish has been hand selected; comprising a mixture of scaly, linear, leather and common carp ensuring a top quality stock.

There are five swims on the lake and lots of nooks and crannies to do some stalking in warmer temperatures.

The lake is only available for exclusive bookings meaning that a maximum of four anglers can fish on a three or seven night basis.

What’s it like and how to fish it best?

The lake is very small and intimate meaning that fishing with stealth is key. Try to keep as quiet and inconspicuous as possible. The slightest crack of a stick could blow your chances.
Keep back from the waters edge as much as possible and use light leads to quietly deploy your rigs.
There can be detritus on the lake bed so solid bags are recommend. Quite often the fish can be located right in the margins so lowering a solid bag can be a deadly tactic – just enough of a mouthful for a bite. Ronnie rigs will fool them complete with a bright, high attract pop-up.
All good quality Boilies and particles will work well so opt for renowned companies.
If the fish aren’t in the edge then take a look at the other features on the lake; islands, lilies etc, they all hold fish on the right day.
If there was one piece of equipment that is highly recommended at Waldens it would be a long baiting spoon. These enable you to introduce your rigs with optimum precision and also stealth – a key factor in catching consistently on the little venue.
