Lucy Lake, Grendon
Lucy Lake
Lucy is found on the Bevingtons Fishery as it is also known. It is a lovely little lake on the Grendon complex. It features two main fishing banks and one of bounds as it divides Lucy Lake and its sister Trinity Lake.
It’s not huge at around 1-2 acres in size, however, it certainly contains some decent carp to go at with the lake record at over 32lb. It contains around 4-5 thirties and some amazing looking backup fish.
The water is gin clear and it is treated with special blue dye each year to combat the weed, which makes it look like a bit of an oasis, pretty cool really, and certainly keeps the carp nice and dark in colour.
The Fishing
Lucy is only a small lake, but it is very intimate and picturesque. The whole Grendon Lakes complex is safe and quiet because it is locked at night. What’s more it is completely fenced from otters so you know that the stock is protected from the furry predators and that the carp are in tip top condition.
The lake is only an acre or two in size, and features 4/5 swims along one bank. The rest of the lake is out of bounds, which of course makes the far bank a carp magnet. You can drive to all of the swims and park up behind, making it incredibly comfortable fishing, particularly in the winter time.
There are features aplenty, with many overhanging bushes and tress, reeds around the bays of the lake and steep marginal shelves which the carp certainly love to patrol at all times of year. Depths vary, and slope off to 15 odd feet in the middle.

Most tactics work well here, but the most effective has to be targeting the far marginal shelf. It makes for very simple fishing. You can stroll round to the opposite bank, bucket in hand full of bait, and literally underarm your concoction over your rigs. They love crushed boilies, corn and particles, they are feeders that’s for sure.
Sometimes they are wary, so don’t be fooled that it will be a walkover. Consequently, it can pay to use a method known as ‘The Washing Line’ which will keep your main line above the surface of the water to a storm pole. This can be a very effective method.
Bright pop-ups score well, as do zigs all-year round. The Lucy carp can also be well up for a mixer in the warmer months so don’t neglect them either.
