Key Details
Sandmartin, Bluebell
Where dreams are made for any angler targeting most coarse species on any of the 5 lakes.
Sandmartin is I’d say 10-12 acres. There are 5 lakes on the complex, which is superbly ran by Tony and his family. The whole place really is stunning, and the fish are unbelievable.
It really wouldn’t surprise me if there are a couple of massive 20 lb Bream in sandmartin
It really wouldn’t surprise me if there are a couple of massive 20 lb Bream in sandmartin.
The biggest I’ve had is 17Lb-6oz, and that was spawned out (below).
Plenty of massive carp to go at too, the biggest so far is just over 50l with a big head of 30’s and some colossal Tench reside in sandmartin and bluebell lake itself.
I’d always approach Sandmartin using a blend of corn, pellet and hemp, all time bream essentials.
Rig wise I use a simple lead clip rig, braided hook lengths and a blow back rig with a Korda kurv shank hook in a size 6 barbless.
Fish safely, and make sure the rig can come away so the fish aren’t trailing line and leaders around in case of a crack off.
On the road bank next to mallard there’s a deep gully 40 yards out and a lot of fish, not just bream but a lot of the carp patrol that area so that is always a hotspot of mine, most other anglers too!
I would suggest you shy away from pop ups on the business end and match the hatch, even the bream are wise to the good old pop up rig these days.
Make sure you use strong tackle, even when targeting the bream there’s a chance of hooking a 40+ carp so your gear needs to be up to the job.
For this reason I wouldn’t use less than 12lb mainline due to the big carp that reside in the lake. Nobody wants to be losing fish and having them get tethered up.

Verdict
There are massive bream, massive tench (in bluebell lake) and every lake has carp in that most angler’s would dream of catching.
Bluebells offers those not looking for carp action some special fish.
