The Fluorocarbon Combi Rig

I show you how to tie a simple fluorocarbon rig with soft hair.

I have used this rig for at least 15 years now catching carp from a number of different venues using it. The stiff nature of the hook link ensures that it kicks away from the lead on the cast, thus preventing tangles, and the soft hair provides a natural-acting bait on the lake bed.  Again, this encroaches the carp into taking it in without caution. This is how I tie it…

  1. Remove a length of supple braid.
  2. Tie a hair in the braid and slide on your hook bait.
  3. Push a small section of silicone tubing onto the braid.
  4. Push the hook point through and slide up the shank.
  5. Whip the hook onto the braid knotless knot style.
  6. Trim the braid close to the hook and blob with a lighter.
  7. Whip the fluorocarbon to the hook using a Domhoff knot.
  8. Trim the tag end.
  9. Now slide a Rotator Sleeve, or shrink tubing, over the eye of the hook.
  10. Job done!

The stiff nature of the hook link ensures that it kicks away from the lead on the cast, thus preventing tangles, and the soft hair provides a natural-acting bait on the lake bed.
